"I'm starting to think one of my exes is making a bunch of fake accounts to get back at me for spilling baked beans on his grandma last Christmas. He wouldn't let it go!" is what Flames superstar said. (Flames is a web series, Elizabeth "Bee" Albright, had two lines in six years ago.)
I found Albright smoking under a tree at Central Park. She looked like a girl with a story to tell, and I was right. Before I introduced myself, she was ready to spill the deets.
"I do go out a lot. No, I'm not homeless. I do relay on dates for food, though. I have a job, but I can't afford sushi three times a week as a barista, ya know? Like, I'll still offer to pay--But I'd also like to fall in love. It would be super convenient to have someone to bring home for Christmas, so my mom doesn't nag me about being alone. Last year she--." Before she can finish, a hawk swoops down, grabs her cigarette, and tries to take her with it. We take a quick break.
"Whew, that bird came out of nowhere. But as I was saying, I find it alarming that I've been stood up eight times in the past month. Part of that is on me though, I made plans with a mime three times, and everyone knows mimes are invisible. So, who knows? Maybe he did show up."
"Mimes aren't invisible. They don't talk in character," I interject, but she doesn't blink. It's like she didn't even hear me.
"Or my ex is stalking me. Luckily, I've been taking self-defense classes. I could break your arm right now, but I'm not going to."
Albright is on "all the apps" but finds the best luck with Hinge.
"Hinge has the best questions. I'm also on Raya. I saw Daniel Radcliffe on there once."
After giving it another fifteen minutes, Elizabeth "Bee" Albright decides it's time to head home, but she's hopeful.
"I've been talking to this guy on Bumble, who seems promising. His name is Kota, like North Dakota but without the 'North Da' part. He's releasing an energy drink later this year, and he's gonna show me his production warehouse. If I'm lucky, I'll get some free drink samples to take home. I guess we'll see."
Albright heads back to her apartment... I think. I'm not sure where she's going, and something tells me she doesn't know either. "Just another Thursday," she mumbles as she walks away. (I don't think she knows I heard her.) She kicks an empty Chinese take-out box across the sidewalk then disappears into the darkness.
